The Robotix-Academy Conference for Industrial Robotics RACIR 2021 took place for the fifth time this year and could, after a break due to Corona, finally be held as a presence event again. On September 22nd, the scientific staff and students of the different research bases of the Academy in Rhineland-Palatinate met at the invitation of the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld (UCB).
Once again, the focus was on scientific exchange on different levels in order to communicate research results, identify synergies and trends, network actors personally and ultimately further strengthen the research areas of the Robotix Academy. The successful networking of the Academy staff is an essential goal of the RACIR conference to continue to ensure cross-border technology transfer.
The approximately 30 attendees could listen to various presentations of 20 minutes each and ask questions to the speakers afterwards. Individual contributions came from the partner universities of Luxembourg, Metz, Saarbrücken and Birkenfeld, as well as from guest speakers from the universities of Heilbronn and Karlsruhe and the IWU Fraunhofer in Chemnitz.
Industry representatives such as the companies B&R, IGUS and Yaskawa were also present to provide information about new products and processes. The company innocise GmbH presented its new gripper systems with synthetic microstructured grippers.
The presentations were divided into different topics according to their research focus, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence AI and the use of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) (convolutional neural network) in object localization and position feedback.
All project presentations led to a lively exchange between the participants: The questions as well as the ideas and technologies contributed will undoubtedly contribute to the progress of the research. In addition to the oral presentations, the conference will be followed by a conference volume containing all contributions in the form of scientific articles.
The conference came to an end with a lively get-together: In bright late summer weather, the event was brought to a close with schwenker, sausages and so on, visibly happy that after one and a half years of the Corona pandemic, things were slowly returning to normal.
