The Technology Day 2021 in Aktueller Bericht of the SR (from minute 19:50)
This year’s Technology Day in Saarland did not take place in the summer, as is usually the case, but shortly before the fall vacations: After a turbulent school year dominated by the Corona pandemic, school life seems to be slowly returning to normal. This is also what the Saarland Technology Day, which took place on October 12, stands for.
This year’s venues are the two pupil research centers in St. Ingbert, the SFTZ in the MINT Campus Alte Schmelz, and Saarlouis, the SFZSLS in the community school “In den Fliesen” and the Wissenswerkstatt in Saarbrücken. Here, workshops are offered for school classes, e.g. on how to build a CO2 traffic light for everyday use, on sensors in smartphones, Lego robotics, smart materials and much more.
The Robotix-Academy team was also on site with two robots and offered two parallel workshops under the motto “Humans and robots – the dream team!” to show pupils how human-robot collaboration (HRC) works using simple examples. The pupils were able to solve simple pick-and-place tasks together with the robot or play tic-tac-toe against it. The eight male and 10 female schoolchildren were enthusiastic and committed to the task.
This is precisely the approach taken by the Technology Day: because technology is only interesting if you can touch it and experience it up close, the VDI and VDE in Saarland initiated the Technology Day. Together with the Saarland universities and the Wissenswerkstatt Saarbrücken (Knowledge Workshop Saarbrücken), they invite school classes from grade 7 onwards to the Day of Technology in Saarland. They are supported by ME Saar and IHK Saarland as well as many companies.
