The Spring of Science is an event that extends throughout Wallonia. This year, it took place from 21 to 27 March 2022.
It is the appointment of the scientific and technological culture. During this event, the participating universities open the doors of their laboratories to the general public of all ages, in order to make them discover the activities and the last advances of their research. In this context, the robotics and automation laboratory of the University of Liege welcomed 6 high school students for about 3 hours.
After a quick tour of the lab and the equipment, the 6 students engaged in a small programming battle on the Sawyer robot. This collaborative robot is very intuitive and therefore easy to learn. They were able (with the help of the lab team members) to program applications including force measurement and even computer vision.
This was an opportunity to talk about current programming techniques and to make the transition to future techniques and thus to the research activities of the lab. The students were then offered interactive demonstrations to explain our research work. The students were quite curious and the event ended with a snack to answer their questions about the research activities as well as about the engineering career and the jobs around robotics.
